Suisse, Queens hotels to be refurbished

Kandy Hotels PLC plans to refurbish Hotel Suisse during the year 2012/2013, according to the firm’s latest annul report which was filed to the Colombo Stock Exchange.  The report states that refurbishments are in the planning phase at present.

Queen’s Hotel, Kandy is to have refurbishment work carried out as well, once the work at Hotel Suisse is completed. Additionally, soft refurbishments are being carried out at present in both hotels.

Kandy Hotels PLC recorded a net profit of Rs 48.4 million, up by 1244%, compared with the previous year. The firm’s turnover also rose 55.34 percent to Rs.287.5 million during the period under consideration.

The annual report further said that Hotel Suisse recorded a turnover 53% higher than the previous year at Rs 155, 860, 964 and a net profit of Rs 31,430,684.

 Queens Hotel also recorded a 58.18% increase in turnover to Rs 132 million and a net profit of Rs 9 million.

Kandy Hotels was taken over by the Galle Face Hotel Group from Ceylon Hotels Corporation in 2005. At the time Queens Hotel, the oldest hotel in the country, had only 27 air conditioned rooms. Under the present management, the number of saleable rooms in the hotel has expanded to 80.
